Description
Classic Green Bean Casserole made with creamy mushroom soup, tender green beans, milk, and crispy fried onions for an easy and comforting holiday side dish.
Ingredients
- 10.5 oz condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- Dash of black pepper
- 4 cups green beans, cooked and cut, or 2 cans (14.5 oz each), drained
- 1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions, divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, black pepper, green beans, and 2/3 cup of the crispy fried onions.
- Bake uncovered for 25 minutes, or until hot and bubbling.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and stir the mixture.
- Sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup of crispy fried onions over the top.
- Bake for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
Notes
- For fresh green beans, trim the ends and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
- Blanch fresh green beans in boiling water for 3-4 minutes until bright green and just tender, then drain and rinse under cold water.
- Prepare the fresh green beans while the oven is preheating so they are ready before mixing with the sauce.
- Blanching helps the green beans stay crisp-tender instead of becoming mushy during baking.
- Divide the crispy fried onions between the casserole mixture and the topping for the best texture.
