Description
This Korean Beef Bowl is a quick and flavorful dinner featuring lean ground beef simmered in a sweet and savory Korean-inspired sauce. Serve it over rice, noodles, or in lettuce wraps for an easy weeknight meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp olive oil or vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1 1/3 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp minced garlic, divided
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 to 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- Green onions, sliced for garnish
- Cooked white rice, brown rice, noodles, or lettuce leaves for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, 1 1/2 tablespoons garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the remaining 1/2 tablespoon garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned and fully crumbled. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir the prepared sauce mixture again and pour it over the cooked beef.
- Mix well and simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions.
- Serve over rice, noodles, or in lettuce wraps.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat in a skillet over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes or microwave until hot.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
