Description

This Korean Beef Bowl is a quick and flavorful dinner featuring lean ground beef simmered in a sweet and savory Korean-inspired sauce. Serve it over rice, noodles, or in lettuce wraps for an easy weeknight meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 1/3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic, divided
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • Green onions, sliced for garnish
  • Cooked white rice, brown rice, noodles, or lettuce leaves for serving


Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, 1 1/2 tablespoons garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the remaining 1/2 tablespoon garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned and fully crumbled. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Stir the prepared sauce mixture again and pour it over the cooked beef.
  6. Mix well and simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions.
  8. Serve over rice, noodles, or in lettuce wraps.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
  • Reheat in a skillet over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes or microwave until hot.
